Folsom PT Continuing Education Schedule 2019

Due to overwhelming encouragement from the 2017-18 participants, Folsom Physical Therapy will continue its OMT continuing education program through the Series format.   The Series bridge the gap between the shortcomings of isolated weekend courses and the demands of our former Long-term Course.  Perhaps more importantly, with their focus on meaningful clinical skill development, The Series seemed to reignite passion for the profession in the 2017-18 participants.

Advanced skill development allows for quick pattern recognition and effective treatment application for the most common presentations encountered in an orthopedic outpatient PT setting.  This facilitates efficient intervention earlier in the patient interface, making the courses pertinent and practical in today’s challenging medical-economic environment.

Striving to provide the longitudinal contact required for true clinical skill development, The Series will consist of independent, but sequenced, courses:

  • The Foundation of Orthopedic Physical Therapy Practice
  • Upper Quadrant 1
  • Lower Quadrant 1
  • Upper Quadrant 2
  • Lower Quadrant 2

Examination preparation for International OMT Practitioner Status through Kaltenborn-Evjenth OMT (Optional and not a requirement of the Long-term course certificate)

Each segment of The Series will serve as both a stand-alone course and a step toward completing the new version of the Folsom Physical Therapy Long-term Course.  In this manner we can provide the flexibility desired by today’s therapists and the longitudinal contact necessary to acquire a strong base of clinical expertise.  The option of being examined to acquire International OMT Practitioner Status through K-E OMT has been made possible due to recent developments in the K-E organization and my participation on its Board of Directors.  Participation in the preparation course and the examination require successful completion of the Folsom PT Long-term Course.

Consistent with our heritage, Folsom courses remain grounded in clinically-based reasoning and practical skills development.  The atmosphere remains relaxed and interactive.  As clinical reasoning and skill development will be progressive, we ask that participants commit to all sessions in each series they participate in.  Each series can be taken in any order, as each will be conducted as a stand-alone course.  However, taking the series as sequenced, if possible, is advised.  Three of the five Folsom Physical Therapy continuing education books, which are now in draft form, will be given out at the beginning of the associated series.  Drafts of the other two books, The Primer of OMT Part 1 and our Training book, are not required but can be purchased to enhance the learning process.  It is advised that anyone who has not taking The Foundations course purchase and read the draft of the Enhancing Clinical Proficiency book prior to participation in the subsequent courses to become familiar with the emphasis of our educational series.
